Take care of the dogs rescued from the illegal dog farm

Unfortunately, some Koreans still eat dogs, and there are lots of dogs still suffering in small cages of illegal ‘dog farms’.

The place used to be an illegal dog farm that traded these poor dogs at the black market.
The dogs were slaughtered and sold as a piece of meat.

Most of dogs in the illegal dog farm are ‘Nurungyi’, a Korean traditional breed of dogs often found living in the country side.

ARK (Animal Rights Korea) organization took over the illegal dog farm that operated and turned it into a protection shelter.
It takes care of the rescued dogs by feeding, cleaning and walking them and even finding them new homes to live in.

ARK works with the donation and support from volunteers, and they are always in need of helping hands of the volunteers.

HAENA’s PICK!

What happens when I arrive at my program destination?

When you arrive at your destination, you will be greeted at the airport. Our local team will take you to the volunteer accommodation.

Before beginning your volunteer program, you will attend a program orientation which is hosted by the local team to give you an introduction to the local culture, safety advice, transport options, rules and expectations, your placement and weekend travel opportunities.

Our local team is available 24/7 to provide support to you during your volunteer program.

Will I be working with other volunteers?

The number of other volunteers varies by program and time of year. Some programs may host dozens of volunteers at the same time, while on others there may only be two or three other volunteers.

Can I go traveling or sightseeing during the weekend of my volunteer program?

Sure! You will have your free time and weekends available to explore more of Korea. Our local team will be happy to provide recommendations for trips that you can take.

Do I need to be able to speak the local language?

For the most part, volunteers are generally only required to speak English to participate in our program. But if you are interested in Korean and want to learn the basics of Korean, please let our staff know. We have a Korean class too. The more you can speak and converse in the local language, the more you will be able to immerse yourself into the program and local culture!
